Believe it or not, one of the more controversial urban development topics is parking. So many questions to address:
Should parking be a required piece of any property development?
How much is enough or too much??
Does excess parking increase car use?
Planners are addressing these and many more questions. Many believe that …

Increasing population density occurs via increased demand for urban land. This in turn increases the cost of real estate which logically impacts housing affordability. This is an emerging reality in the urban world.…

I chose this article because it has some degree of personal meaning to me. I am Native American myself and am always interested in the culture and society of other tribes and reservations. In this article, a woman named Rochelle Ripley, who grew up on the Cheyenne River Sioux Reservation is now helping to improve the society and living conditions on the reservation. She grew up on the reservation with her grandmother, who told her about their people and the struggles they have endured over…

Florida Senator Marco Rubio spoke unashamedly of his stand on life before birth last Thursday at the GOP Debate, declaring, "…All human life is worthy of protection, irrespective of the circumstances in which that human life was created." He further clarified on NBC’s "Meet the Press" Sunday evening that he definitely means all abortions: "I personally and deeply believe that all human life is worthy of the protection of our laws. I do. And I believe that irrespective of the conditions by…

Ken Paxton, the Texas Attorney General as of 2015, has been indicted for two counts of first-degree securities fraud and one count of third-degree failure to register. These charges are linked to Mr. Paxton's work during his time as a member of the Texas House of Representatives, prior to him being elected as Texas Attorney General. Ken Paxton is accused of providing investment advise and encouraging and investment of $600,000 into the company, Servergy. While doing so, it is said that he…
ContinueAmerica is a melting pot of many cultures. Many Americans have to learn to adapt to all of the different types of religions, personalities, habits, food, culture, etc… Since 2014 this issue has not only been brought up in New Jersey, but all around the country. It hurts to see this being raised with Christian morals. I would respect all other beliefs and would be okay with them not standing up if they dont believe in the pledge. however, I would not take something away that has been done for…

While three 12 year old girls were having a sleepover in 2014, two of the girls lured the other girl, Payton Leutner, into the woods. Once they were in the woods, the two young ladies stabbed Payton 19 times, but Payton still survived. The two girls said they were inspired by Slender Man and wanted to please the character. Slender Man is a fictional supernatural character who wears a dark suit, has no facial features, and is abnormally tall and thin. Stories including the Slender Man…

I found this to be a very interesting article in that it is (in my opinion) a really great idea that is simultaneously highly criticized by a lot of Republicans. As the title suggests, the Obama administration has announced a plan to give state and federal prisons Pell Grants so that their prisoners have some aid to college courses while still behind bars. Not every single person will be extended the opportunity, but primarily the prisoners that were to be released within three to five years…

The Affordable Healthcare Act was upheld by the Supreme Court. However, Governor Greg Abbott was against the ruling and urged moving to a state that opposes the Affordable Care Act. He further stated that he would do everything he could to end Obamacare in Texas. As it is a national program simply moving to avoid the coverage mandate would not suffice.
Texas has the highest uninsured rate in the country and is trailing in the average U.S. enrollment on Healthcare.gov.…

In Texas, people are being hit with criminal charges for failing to pay back predatory loans. Predatory loans are cash loans with exorbitant interest rates- largely seen as unfair and deceptive. As people are unable to pay back these loans, many have received notices informing them that they are required to pay a certain price (often many times more than they loaned), or serve prison time. The huge problem with this is that it is against federal law, the Texas constitution, and the…

After talking to one of my co-workers about this, it got me thinking a lot. If this kind of situation were to have taken place around 40 years ago, there would be no problem. It used to be the norm for people to let their kids be outside by themselves. Our world has turned into a very cautious environment. While reading this article, it seemed to me that the parents of these children had no intention of putting their children in any harm.
The article pointed out how that the family…

In Massachusetts, police arrested 29 men who shut down two major sections of highway in Boston "during the morning rush hour to protest the recent killings by U.S. police of unarmed black men." Not only was this during rush hour, they chained themselves to concrete blocks. One of the organizers commented, "'Our nonviolent direct action is meant to expose the reality that Boston is a city where white commuters and students use the city and leave, while black and brown…

The Marysville-Pilchuck High School, a Washington state high school, was evacuated today after receiving a bomb threat. The school was the scene of a shooting in 2014, which killed five teenagers, including the gun holder. After the school was evacuated, the police searched the entire campus using bomb-sniffing dogs, making sure there was no threat for the students and staff. Once the place was cleared, students and staff were allowed to go back to campus and get their cars.
This is…

"According to FBI informat's legal testimony, Christopher Cornell, 20, of Cincinnati researched the construction of pipe bombs, purchased a semi-automatic rifle and 600 rounds of ammunition and made plans to travel to Washington to carry out the plot."
After reading this article my mind was blown. I had no idea that this had even taken place in our country in the first place. Anytime I would watch the news, I would always get upset because of how corrupt our world has become. I…

The country of North Korea has opened up for conversations with the United States. A proposal was made by North Korea to stop nuclear tests if the US would remove their troops from South Korea. The proposal was rejected by the United States, as they remain open for conversations with North Korea. The North Korean Deputy Ambassador informed that NK is ready to explain their intentions behind the proposal to the US, and suggested that many possibilities would emerge upon the practice of…
