I chose this article because it has some degree of personal meaning to me. I am Native American myself and am always interested in the culture and society of other tribes and reservations. In this article, a woman named Rochelle Ripley, who grew up on the Cheyenne River Sioux Reservation is now helping to improve the society and living conditions on the reservation. She grew up on the reservation with her grandmother, who told her about their people and the struggles they have endured over the generations. She asked Rochelle one thing before she died: to go home and help their people. Rochelle now travels back to the reservation several times a year from her home in Connecticut. She has raised over $9 million through her nonprofit organization and has made a huge impact in their society.
This article was refreshing to read. Even though the Sioux people are and have been struggling, there is hope. There has been much improvement, which was largely due to the efforts of one person. It proves that one person can make a huge difference in the world and that our efforts are not wasted. From a Christian perspective, this is the kind of thing we should be doing for others all the time..Investing in others to make a difference. In my opinion, government should not have very much to do with this type of situation. People can work together to lift others up, and those people can help themselves. It takes everyone's involvement and hard work, but it is possible to take care of the poor and provide for the welfare of others without government involvement.
Kristina, I love your blog post. One person can truly make a difference. It's such an encouragement to see what Rochelle Ripley was able to do for the people in the reservation. I do agree that as Christians we are called to care for the needy and just give a helping hand. If one person was able to raise $9 million, than imagine what we can do together as an army of God.
