There have been multiple fatalities at the shooting at Santa Fe High School. Although the scene is still being processed and cleared, the situation has been contained. There have been confirmed injuries, police reported. The Houston police responded to reports of shots fired at at Santa Fe High School near Houston, Texas. Law enforcement will continue to secure the building and initiate all emergency management protocols to release and move students to another location. This article is very relevant to our course, because as I have previously discussed liberty is not liberty if we live in hear of our safety and the safety of our kids. Even though I was completely against the 2nd amendment, because I was raised in an island with a different ideology I have come to understand the importance of the 2nd amendment. Nonetheless, as a conservative I believe that there needs to be stricter rules on how a person gets a gun. Many of the fatalities and school shootings have been enforced by a person who has some type of mental disorder. I think that if a person has had a past with violence, mental institutions, or drug use he or she should not be allowed to purchase a gun. As a Christian, I think it is important that we stand up for the right of our second amendment, but I believe it is equally important to make it harder for unstable people to posses a lethal weapon.
The situation that happened in Santa Fe is awful and saddening. This morning while at work I had a customer fill me in on what all happened and I was immediately saddened by the even that took place. I have a lot of fiends that live in the Huston area and know one specific person that goes to that school. Thankfully with the help of technology and sharing updates, I was able to see that she marked herself safe during the event. I agree with you on how liberty is not liberty when we live in fear. With the amount of shootings that have happened in the recent months its a blessing from God that I personally have not been involved in one. Just a week ago the IKEA in Grand Prairie had a similar shooting situation, but thankfully there was only one fatality.
I do agree that there needs to be a harder vetting process to getting a gun. Besides the normal gun safety classes that you must take before purchasing a gun there should be more. A more in-depth background check should be done and gun sellers should be more proactive on who they do business with rather than just being focused on making sales. If it takes person with active seizures to be seizure free for a whole year before being able to get a driving license, it should take someone longer than just a few weeks to buy a gun.
