Cheyenne River Sioux Reservation Culture (http://www.cnn.com/2015/07/30/us/cnn-heroes-ripley/index.html)

I chose this article because it has some degree of personal meaning to me. I am Native American myself and am always interested in the culture and society of other tribes and reservations. In this article, a woman named Rochelle Ripley, who grew up on the Cheyenne River Sioux Reservation is now helping to improve the society and living conditions on the reservation. She grew up on the reservation with her grandmother, who told her about their people and the struggles they have endured over…

Rubio and His Prolific Stance on Abortion

Florida Senator Marco Rubio spoke unashamedly of his stand on life before birth last Thursday at the GOP Debate, declaring, "…All human life is worthy of protection, irrespective of the circumstances in which that human life was created."  He further clarified on NBC’s "Meet the Press" Sunday evening that he definitely means all abortions: "I personally and deeply believe that all human life is worthy of the protection of our laws. I do. And I believe that irrespective of the conditions by…

Christian institutions garnering support in ObamaCare challenge

Three Christian schools have gained allies in their battle against ObamaCare. Schools that are supported by the Supreme Court are Houston Baptist University, East Texas Baptist University, and Westminter Theological Seminary. These schools have appealed the Supreme Court and their plans for their health insurance plans. This ruling said that schools are forced to offer 14 types of contraception spelled out in the HHS mandate of ObamaCare within their health insurance plans. The schools say that… Continue

Atheists Challenge Reciting the Pledge

America is a melting pot of many cultures. Many Americans have to learn to adapt to all of the different types of religions, personalities, habits, food, culture, etc… Since 2014 this issue has not only been brought up in New Jersey, but all around the country. It hurts to see this being raised with Christian morals. I would respect all other beliefs and would be okay with them not standing up if they dont believe in the pledge. however, I would not take something away that has been done for…

Girls Stabbed Classmate to Please Slender Man

While three 12 year old girls were having a sleepover in 2014, two of the girls lured the other girl, Payton Leutner, into the woods.  Once they were in the woods, the two young ladies stabbed Payton 19 times, but Payton still survived.  The two girls said they were inspired by Slender Man and wanted to please the character.  Slender Man is a fictional supernatural character who wears a dark suit, has no facial features, and is abnormally tall and thin.  Stories including the Slender Man…

Obama administration announces Pell Grants for prisoners

I found this to be a very interesting article in that it is (in my opinion) a really great idea that is simultaneously highly criticized by a lot of Republicans. As the title suggests, the Obama administration has announced a plan to give state and federal prisons Pell Grants so that their prisoners have some aid to college courses while still behind bars. Not every single person will be extended the opportunity, but primarily the prisoners that were to be released within three to five years…

Texas still slamming reform and trailing in health care

The Affordable Healthcare Act was upheld by the Supreme Court.  However, Governor Greg Abbott was against the ruling and urged moving to a state that opposes the Affordable Care Act.  He further stated that he would do everything he could to end Obamacare in Texas.  As it is a national program simply moving to avoid the coverage mandate would not suffice.

Texas has the highest uninsured rate in the country and is trailing in the average U.S. enrollment on Healthcare.gov.…
