A vital priority for New Urban trends is walkable neighborhoods that yield a more compact, dense urban region.  Advocates associate walkability with a healthier, safer lifestyle for citizens.  Denser community grids also promote a sense of community.

In fact, recent studies indicate that prospective homebuyers list walkability as a desirable neighborhood characteristic.

This blog post reminded me of the times I watch HDTV shows about house hunting, and how the soon-to-be homeowners are truly compromising in order to find houses that are in walkable neighborhoods. The majority of them are willing to pay more and live in a smaller house just because their priority is to have shops, parks and transportation at a walking distance from their homes.

Correction: I meant HGTV. Just saw the mistake.
