This is relevant to the course material because it is including The Constitution, which is a topic that we have been covering.

The right to bear arms and gun control are very sensitive topics in today's society; especially with the younger generations. Some say that the Second Amendment is outdated and doesn't apply to today's world or maybe we should remove it permanently. However, it is still very relevant today. Citizens should still have the right to bear arms if they wish. If one does not wish to bear arms, then that is their own decision. That is the wonderful thing about freedom in the United States. People may choose to do what they please. In this context, one can choose to own a gun legally. I personally don't believe that the Second Amendment should ever be up for debate. It is a right to all Americans and should never be taken away because some citizens don't agree with it.

I chose this article because it is a sensitive topic and I personally don't see a problem with people using their rights to own a firearm. I would address this problem by informing that it is indeed one's right to use the freedom that they have been given. For the people that disagree with the right to bear arms, it is okay to disagree but to permanently boycott the Second Amendment is not practical. Faith informs my response because choosing the right to bear arms is obeying the law, so there is no problem in supporting the Second Amendment.

Rachel, I completely agree with your points and values of the second amendment. It is unreasonable and that just because people have a difference of opinion, they seek to make a permanent change to our founding Constitution. I understand as well that if someone feels like it is ethically wrong to own a gun they would want to limit the expansion of the use of guns. However, trying to eliminate all use of arms is unreasonable, as well as the idea of boycotting the second amendment.

In reference to scripture, the Bible states were are to respect one another and I believe that goes along with respecting those who we disagree with. If someone wants to make a difference then there are much better ways to apply their beliefs and values. As Christians we should seek to show Christ in everything we do and say, even if it is among people who we disagree with.

Rachel, I really liked what you said about the right to bear arms. That is someone's decision and choice if they want to bear arms or not. No one is forcing anyone to bear arms, it is someones choice to do so. I also like what you said about the second amendment. The second amendment is a "law" that was created a long time ago when our country was being created. We should not try and alter those "laws". If everyone comes to a mutual decision that an amendment should be taken away then yes we could address it and change it, but not when our country is so split on an issue.

Thank you Rachel for your post.  I totally agree with your positions.  We all have a constitutional right to bear arms, I myself possess a rifle for hunting.  I was raised in the rural areas of Louisiana and it has always been customary to own or hunt wildlife for food.  I believe in families having a weapon to protect themselves also, however there are those who misuse, abuse and are irresponsible with guns and as a result people are hurt and killed senseless.  Because of this you have this debate going on between the two camps of people.
