Dallas’ urban apartment building boom is heading to the suburbs
The article begins by describing the urban growth that is taking place in the city of Dallas. There has been a huge focus in the surrounding areas including Oak Cliff, East Dallas, and the Design District. These areas are having a big boom in the construction of apartments with Mix-Used development that are attracting young people to the area. Even though these areas are starting to grow, the same exact thing is happening in the suburbs, they are seeing an explosion of population growth to those particular areas. Major companies have begun to sprawl out to the suburbs which is bringing the apartment boom to those areas.
This is causing the people from the downtown Dallas to begin to move out to the suburbs where the new mixed development areas are beginning to mimic the same atmosphere as if you were in downtown Dallas area. After reading this article I do agree with author that this is happening. A perfect example of this is where I am from, which is Garland, at first the downtown area had nothing but small businesses. However, now you have two large mix developments style of apartments in downtown Garland. So, I have seen this happening and it is growing and bringing in many young professional to the are of downtown Garland.
It it logical to see such growth in the suburbs such as these areas, and I feel as if a lot of this is due to the location and opportunity that suburbs have to offer. They are not in the midst of overcrowded, busy cities but they also are still a good location to reach the entertainment and opportunities that is not as present in the country atmosphere. We often see inadequate housing, especially in the city, but also in suburbs due to a migration of people, so it is no surprise to see the expansion of apartment buildings which is also beneficial in this time. It is interesting to see new job opportunities expand and develop from the major companies in these areas as people began to spread out as well.
I can definitely see the same atmosphere happening in other suburbs. I love going to Irving near Las Colinas. It has a small town feel with enough entertainment and places to study. Downtown Dallas is too overwhelming and huge, and can also make you feel lonely because you do not see as many people during the day as you see in these populated suburbs.
