While we contemplate important urban issues above the partisan fray here at Collaborative Government, the president's latest initiative enjoys relevance to urban issues/development and merits further analysis.  The plan includes subsidies for both the housing/mortgage industry as well as state and local governments.     

 

Like all potential policy, the Jobs Act involves political maneuvering.

After reading some of President Obama's proposals, I find one that I am in favor of.  Cutting payroll taxes in half for 98% of businesses in America is an idea that I like.  If businesses spend less money on taxes, perhaps they will have more money with which to grow their businesses and consider hiring new employees.  It sounds good on paper anyway.  Nevertheless, somewhere in all of this, our government must learn to stop spending money that they do not have!!!  A policy of habitually spending more than one has is not a workable long-term plan for an individual, a family, a business, or a nation.  Speaking of planning...
