As frustration confusion and heart-break is mounting over the situation in Nigeria, the US is left wondering what its position in the situation is. Obviously the gut reaction is to get involved as quickly as possible in order to free as many kidnapped young women as possible. This response seems logical and is what almost everyone would like. Conversely, it is difficult for the US to justify getting involved in a situation in a nation as unstable as Nigeria. Implications of involving ourselves in a conflict as complex and seemly endless as the conflict in Nigeria are massive. If the US were to overstep its bounds we may find ourselves in a can-of-worms type situation with too many assets to pull out cleanly, and not enough support to finish the job. This article propose what I believe to be an appropriate solution. This article suggest the US follow stipulations put in place by the UN and follow the guidance of the UN and the rest of the international community with regards to the situation in Nigeria. That way the US is separating itself from the conflict its self, but still providing support and aid through the UN.

I agree. The US cannot go in wholeheartedly and give all assets because that is somewhat illogical. The situation in and of itself sadly cannot be handled by Nigeria. This is another situation entirely, how could the US help (when this situation is over) Nigeria have better handles on these situations? How could we help educate them on how to handle huge groups of people kidnapping women. But yes, the US should separate itself from the conflict but provide as much AID as possible. I think these issues ought to have more budget than some things America spends their majority of money on.

I think that sometimes we want to help so bad that we jeopardize ourself in the process. I think the US is being smart about the way they are handling this. As much as the US would like to help, there is only so much they can do. When it comes to other countries there are certain things that are just out of our hands. I think the real world is out there and it a horrible corrupt society. We as Americans have it so good here that we become blinded at reality. How man times have girls probably been kidnaped and sold in other countries and we are now actually wanting to help? The US can't always help every case because they would have their hands fool for a lifetime. I agree on how they handled this as well and they are doing every effort that is in their hands to do.
