What better representation of government showing its power as it has done in Thailand. The Military has taken over all security relations in the country. Can you imagine living in a place with such unrest? Some people may thing America is headed this way but the reality of this happening is pretty slim. I feel thankful to live in a place where we don't have soldiers at intersections and have to worry if our ill advised stare is met with a bullet. You can demonstrate all you want as long as you have the right credentials! This seems like an extreme attempt to coral the people of this nation. If you analyze the democracy MAP it is clear that this nation is lacking some basic fundamentals to be considered a democracy. What ways do you all think this could've been avoided? Or is this part of the world just that corrupt that the military is the only way to police the unrest? http://news.msn.com/world/thailands-army-declares-martial-law-denie...

I don't think that any country is just doomed to never see freedom. I think that there are a lot of obstacles for Thailand to get through but it's hard for me to lose all hope seeing different countries in the past go from tyrannical governments to democracies. I think that there has to be a sharp shift in leadership and that can take a long time and would be a combination of several leaders coming through in the years to come to be able to keep the status quo but slowly push the government to a more democratic state. It's really sad to hear that this is happening to people just like us.
