According to the Iowa Department of Public Health, of 3,722 abortions were performed in the state in 2016. But, as of May 2, 2018 the Iowa Legislature approved what would be the nation’s strictest abortion law. This law prohibits women to have an abortion after six weeks into pregnancy. The point at which doctors typically can detect the flicker of a fetal heartbeat on an ultrasound is at six weeks. Iowa would be saving 3,475 lives, because in the Iowa Department of Health survey about 347 abortions occurred before the six weeks of pregnancy. In our class we are reading and getting to know the political parties we feel more inclined to; for this reason, I believe that this current relevant es relevant to our class. Conservatives value life and are against abortion, whilst liberals view abortion as a choice a women should make. I think that this topic is very important to me because I found out I was pregnant with my first son while I was in high school. My parents, even though they were not Christians, had raised me with the understanding of right and wrong. I believe we are now raising generations and telling them it is ok to kill depending on the circumstances. Law's should not be broken just because of the situation we find ourselves in. Most importantly, killing is wrong in the eyes of He who created life.
Shavelly,
Thanks for sharing this current event. I think it is important as Christians to consider the importance that legislation that either diminishes or upholds biblical truth. Laws specifically dealing with abortion need to be dealt with by Christians in a manner that preserves and celebrates life. I think you made great points about how Christians should react to laws about abortions on both a state and federal level. It is true that the God we serve created life and as Christians we should take action, even politically, to support that Truth. In regard to what Iowa is doing in their government to change the abortion laws to include more strict regulations is something that I can personally get behind. I think that abortion should be completely declared as illegal in the United States. As Iowa sets the example of a first move toward eliminating the frequent occurrence of abortion, I hope that other states follow their lead. Your response was very insightful and it is clear that you show a real passion for this political issue in our country
