The future of our citizens might be in danger due to the lack of bonds that children should be receiving from their parents at an early age.  A new analysis concludes that 40 percent of children are not getting that needed secure attachment, which family therapist Susan Stiffelman says comes through parents being attuned to their baby.  These bonds that so many babies are not getting with their parents can be detrimental to their success later on in life.

Susan Stiffelman also says, "Bonding with them means relating and responding and interacting with them in such a way that says 'I'm with you,'" she explains. “’We're connected. Your needs matter. They can be understood and acted upon.' And it sort of sets a template for a child going through life."  Children from birth to the age of three who don't obtain that strong bond with their mother or father are more likely to suffer from aggression, defiance and hyperactivity in the future.  This lack of a loving bond can also impact other areas for children, including health and educational achievement.

I chose this article because I have heard of studies done like this and to me it is so sad that some kids are not fortunate enough to receive the loving bond that I received when I was little.  I can definitely see how not having that can cause major problems down the road.  This topic needs to addressed and publicized more to make parents more aware of how their children need to be treated.  The article also notes that, believe it or not, boys require more love and affection than girls do at a young age.  They can be affected a lot worse if they are deprived of that than a girl would be if she was deprived of it.

I know that when I have children I will show them much love and care especially at an early age.  Because not only is that something that God has placed in them to desire and need, but I will also want to do it and enjoy loving them because they are my kids.  Just like Christ has done for us.
