Attorneys, professors warn about ICE detainer legality

In Travis County many professors and Attorneys have been protesting against a policy known as “Secure Communities or S-comm. “According to KHOU.com, federal immigration laws has been a huge deal in Travis County. Whether the policies they are implementing are constitutional or not, “4,600 people in Travis County were deported in the last four years because of this law.” (Tina Shively) The sheriff of Travis County will continue to enforce federal, even though that means separating families every week. Around February, a group of activist also protested against S-Comm. In order to end county authority from turning over undocumented people to the Immigration officials, this makes the county undergo legal liability. Unfortunately they ended up getting arrested

I chose this article because it caught my attention how small counties are struggling with Immigration laws which is not just a state problem. Many families are becoming separated and hurt, when a family member is taken away without committing non-violent crimes.  If I was the sheriff of Travis County, I would stopped the persecution of illegal immigrants and turn them in because as a sheriff I know they have not committed any harm to the people in Travis County. Being women of faith I will pray that the sheriff of Travis Greg Hamilton will use his good judgment and end the agony of immigrant’s families to be deported.
