In this article, 2 brothers state their beliefs. They host a TV show that helps under privileged people buy houses and fix them up. The show is on HGTV. They say: "The first and last thought on our minds as we begin and end each day is: have we shined Christ's light today? Our faith is the fundamental calling in our lives, and the centerpiece of who we are. As Christians we are called to love our fellow man. Anyone who suggests that we hate homosexuals or people of other faiths is either misinformed or lying." Supposedly, one brother was overheard off screen saying something negative about homosexuals. Of course, it was blown up and eventually the show didn't air. One brother stated this; "We love all people. I love homosexuals. I love Islam, Muslims, and my brother and I would never discriminate. Never have we -- never would we," said David Benham." When it comes to government, is there really freedom of speech? How far does freedom of religion stretch? I think that nowadays, the acceptable thing is to actually support gays. With the whole "Perks of being a Wallflower" movement, being a Christian is harder now than ever. I think people think "Christians" cast harsher judgment then they do. Overall, things like this will continue to happen. These guys at least got to stand up for what they believed!

I think this issue has definitely gotten out of proportion and people have taken this above and beyond what it really is. Like, you said a freedom of speech/religion. As citizens of this country we have rights stated in the constitution where freedom of speech/religion is without boundaries whatsoever. Everything which has to do with this now a days is so gray; lines are blurred now. But at least the few which take a stand really take a stand!
I think some people go to an extreme when someone says anything sounding anti-gay. Everyone is entitled so think and say what they believe. Although it is clear they did not mean to sound anti- gay people took it to heart and felt offended. I think it is becoming so hard for Christians to express what they think more than anyone else. I feel the eyes are on Christians to see what our reactions are towards sinful things. I think if they take offense to anything it is for a reason. Sin is sin no matter what level or what extreme, and as Christians we know what is right and wrong. Even people who are not Christian know what is sin and what isn’t. These two brothers are publicly known because they are on TV, so everything they say is being watched like a hawk especially because they claim to be Christians. Even a show like Duck Dynasty who’s cast is Christian as well was bashed because one of the members said they did not agree with a gay lifestyle. Just because people do not agree with what is cool and “in” does not mean they don’t have the right to express how they feel just like everyone else in the world. Gay people are able to express themselves so why shouldn’t Christians be able to as well. Everyone has freedom and the right to say how they fell and think. These two brothers did nothing wrong but simply say what they believe. Not everyone needs to agree with gay rights, but society is putting pressure on everyone who stands against it. We all have a voice and should be at liberty to express it without being judged and suffer the repercussions.
I have said this before, but I feel as though our country is becoming something very dark. They say we are to be able to express our own opinions, and have our views, but the second we express our views and they are the "right" ones in society's eyes, you get ripped up one side and down the other by the media for being insensitive and bigot. It isn't fair to the majority of Christians who truly love everyone and shine a light on others as Christ called us in a true sense, and who love everyone, but get the bad rep by the few extremist "Christians" at rallies that say "God hates gays" and things like that. It is the opposite. We as Christians are called to love and spread the gospel and that is it. We have always been a country of tolerance towards all races, religions and beliefs, but it almost seems as though we are becoming a society of intolerance towards the beliefs of those who the majority or powerful people of our country don't want.
