Transportation Planning

Posted on December 16, 2015 at 10:04am 0 Comments

Different cities across the nation have different vibes and styles of transportation. As we studied TOD's and Portland, we see an emphasis on walkability, bike use, and decrease in automobile use as they focus on density and proximity in the city. Analyzing Dallas, I immediately think about the traffic, overcrowded highways, and the lack of walking and use of public transportation in the city. Therefore, bigger cities have different approaches to transportation and their planning process…

I am all for zoning! I think that every area should have a order. Many times I see communities around the area and they just seem to be out of order, like something is not right. For instance, my high school in Houston Texas about a block away there was a smoke shop near by. This made it easy for teenagers to be exposed to such negative things at a early age, because kids would have to pass it while walking home. Zoning plays an important role when it comes to developing and maintaining a community, because it sets a standard. If you are in a community that promotes smoking, drinking, and sex than that is what you will get. If you are in a community that promotes family, education, healthy lifestyles than that is what you will get. Zoning is a great method to keep a areas in order.
